NYC PSYCHIATRY AND PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIANS EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL (ESA) PRESCRIPTIONS AND LETTERS BY BOARD CERTFIIED MEDICAL DOCTORS

Updated by Natan Schleider, M.D. on February 27th, 2021

NYC Psychiatry and Primary Care Physicians and Doctors write prescriptions and letters for Emotional Support Animals (ESA) Letters AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE.for our NYC patients.

First, let’s clarify an emotional support animal or ESA — usually a dog or cat — may be prescribed to augment our patient care when they suffer from a mood disorder (IE PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia). Some of our patients already have an ESA and simply need a letter documenting why they are medically necessary.

Various studies in recent years have found evidence supporting that an Emotional Support Animal or ESA can reduce stress or anxiety. SOURCES INCLUDE Science Daily 3.12.2018 Sit, stay, heal: Study finds therapy dogs help stressed university students — ScienceDaily American Psychological Association Roles of emotional support animals examined (apa.org) and a St. Catherine University Study Impact of Emotional Support Animals on Student Stress (stkate.edu)
Unlike a Service Animal (IE Seeing Eye Dog) an Emotional Support Animal does not require special training although ideally the animal is well behaved and peaceful with the patient and with other humans and animals.

NYC Psychiatrists and GP Doctors have written hundred of ESA letters for our NYC patients.

Each letter may need a different set of information depending on if the letter is for travel or for a new residence.

Regardless, there is no need for our patient to spend money on an ESA Letter website, we are happy to recommend an Emotional Support Animal before prescribing unnecessary medicines.
